Coleman Maternity Session
The Coleman shoot was my first Maternity session of 2024. There's a unique beauty in capturing the glow of an expectant mother, and for me, it's a privilege to witness and document the journey towards parenthood through photography.
The session with the Colemans was characterized by its laid-back atmosphere. Given the chilly weather outside, we opted for an indoor shoot, choosing various spaces within their family home as potential backdrops. I decided on up in the warmth of their kitchen, we made sure to clear the space of their beloved family pets—more on them shortly—and began capturing moments that would soon become treasured memories.
We started with a few outfit changes for Mum before inviting Dad to join in. Up until that point, he had been busy preparing the nursery, a testament to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the impending arrival of their little one. The atmosphere remained relaxed and unhurried throughout the session.
As we neared the end of the shoot, I asked if there were any additional ideas the Colemans wanted to explore. It was then that Dad made an unexpected request: "Can we have some photos with the pigs, please?" Guinea pigs, to be precise. It was a delightful surprise and a first for me in maternity photography.
Earlier in the session, there was a humorous moment when I prompted Mum and Dad to snuggle up, only to be met with a response of, "How... we don't really do that." However, cuddling with their furry friends turned out to be a different story altogether. The joy and love that radiated from them as they interacted with their Guinea Pig siblings filled the room, resulting in some genuinely heartwarming photographs.
It was evident that if Baby Coleman received even a fraction of the love bestowed upon their Guinea Pig siblings, they would be one fortunate little bundle of joy. This unexpected addition to the session served as a reminder of the uniqueness of each family's story and the beauty that lies in capturing those authentic moments of love and connection.
